Passenger FAQ

Getting to know SkyFuns

What is SkyFuns and how does it work?

SkyFuns connects private pilots with passengers who want to share the cost of a flight. Pilots publish planned trips, passengers request available seats, and the platform keeps the booking, payment, and communication flow organized.

Is flight cost-sharing allowed and how does it operate?

Yes. SkyFuns flights are arranged around EASA cost-sharing rules. The direct costs of the flight, such as fuel, airport fees, and aircraft rental, are divided among all occupants, including the pilot. Pilots do not make a profit from these flights.

How are seat prices calculated?

Seat prices are based on the pilot's estimated direct operating costs, including fuel, aircraft rental, and airport fees. That estimate is divided among the people on board. SkyFuns may add a small service fee, and the final passenger price is shown before booking.

What type of aircraft should I expect?

Flights usually use light general aviation aircraft, such as single-engine or small multi-engine airplanes. The exact aircraft type is shown in each flight listing.

Is SkyFuns a commercial airline or air carrier?

No. SkyFuns is not a commercial airline or licensed air carrier. It does not employ pilots or operate aircraft. It is a digital platform that helps private pilots and passengers arrange non-commercial cost-shared flights under applicable European rules.

Passenger FAQ

Planning your experience

What destinations are available?

Destinations depend on the routes proposed by pilots. They may include local scenic flights, cross-country flights, or trips between cities and regions. If you have a route in mind, you can message a pilot to discuss it.

How can I search for a specific trip?

You can browse available flights by entering your preferred departure area and using filters to refine availability and preferences. Start from the SkyFuns home page or the flights page, then search by city or departure area.

What is the process for requesting a seat?

Once you find a suitable flight, submit a booking request. The pilot reviews it and can accept, reject, or suggest another suitable date before the request is confirmed.

What happens once my request is confirmed?

You receive confirmation details, including the meeting point, timing, and any specific instructions. Communication with the pilot should stay inside the SkyFuns platform whenever possible.

Are there restrictions on baggage?

Yes. Small aircraft have strict weight and balance limits, so baggage capacity is limited. The pilot specifies what is allowed for each flight.

What should I expect after arrival?

After landing, passengers disembark as they would on a private flight. Depending on the destination and airport operation, you may have access to airfield facilities or onward transport options. Follow the pilot's instructions at all times.

Passenger FAQ

Changes, delays, and cancellations

Are flights guaranteed to go ahead as scheduled?

No. Flights depend on weather, aircraft availability, and pilot constraints. Flexibility is important when booking this type of general aviation flight.

What happens if a flight gets canceled?

If a flight is canceled, you are informed as soon as possible. Refunds, credits, or rebooking options follow the applicable SkyFuns cancellation policy for that booking.

Can I modify or cancel my booking?

Passengers may cancel up to 12 hours before the estimated departure time to receive a full refund. For later cancellations, the SkyFuns service fee may be retained and the remaining balance may be refunded or issued as SkyFuns credit, depending on the booking policy.

What if the pilot is unavailable at the meeting point?

Contact the pilot through the platform and notify SkyFuns support as soon as possible. The support team will review the situation and guide the appropriate assistance or refund process.

What should I do if my flight does not take place?

If the flight cannot be completed, SkyFuns support will guide you through next steps, including rebooking options or reimbursement where applicable.

Passenger FAQ

Payments, booking, and gifts

What payment methods does SkyFuns accept?

SkyFuns accepts major debit and credit cards and other secure online payment methods available at checkout. Payments are processed through encrypted, trusted providers.

Can I pay the pilot directly on the day of the flight?

No. Bookings must be prepaid through SkyFuns. This keeps scheduling, payment records, and safety-related coordination inside the platform.

Can I gift a SkyFuns flight to someone else?

Yes. SkyFuns can support flight gifts so the recipient can choose a suitable date and experience within the validity period.

How does the SkyFuns gift credit system work?

Gift credit is purchased as a value or experience package. The recipient receives a unique credit code that can be redeemed when booking a flight.

Is my gift credit linked to a specific flight only?

No. Gift credit is flexible and is not tied to one date at purchase, allowing the recipient to choose their preferred schedule.

How long is SkyFuns credit valid for?

SkyFuns credit is valid for a fixed period from the date of purchase. The FAQ reference sets the validity period at 2 years.

Can multiple credits be combined for one booking?

Yes. Multiple valid SkyFuns credits can be combined for a single booking when they apply to the selected experience.

Passenger FAQ

Extra information

How early should I arrive before departure?

Arrive at least 20 to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time so there is enough time for briefing and preparation.

Can I contact the pilot before the flight?

Yes. Once your booking is confirmed, you can communicate with the pilot through the platform to discuss details or ask questions.

Are flights affected by weather conditions?

Yes. Safety is the priority. Flights may be delayed or canceled when weather conditions are not suitable.

What safety measures are in place?

Flights are conducted by licensed pilots operating under applicable aviation regulations. Aircraft must be properly maintained, and pilots are responsible for ensuring the flight is safe before departure.

Pilot FAQ

Getting started

What is SkyFuns for pilots?

SkyFuns helps private pilots share direct flight costs with passengers. It can make planned flights more affordable while connecting pilots with people who share an interest in aviation.

Is cost-sharing legal for private pilots?

Cost-sharing is permitted when the flight is conducted under the applicable non-commercial rules and direct costs are shared proportionally between pilot and passengers. Pilots remain responsible for complying with the relevant aviation regulations, including the European framework referenced in Regulation (EU) No 965/2012.

What expenses can I share with passengers?

You may share direct flight-related costs such as fuel, landing fees, aircraft rental, and parking. Fixed costs like maintenance, insurance, or aircraft ownership are typically not eligible for sharing.

Do I need to be verified to fly on SkyFuns?

Yes. Pilots must complete verification, including licence validation and identity checks, before publishing flights on the platform.

Do you verify pilot licences with aviation authorities?

SkyFuns verifies pilot profiles through document and identity checks. Pilots must provide valid licences and certifications before approval. SkyFuns does not systematically cross-check every licence directly with civil aviation authorities, so pilots remain responsible for maintaining valid, genuine credentials at all times.

Pilot FAQ

Managing my flight

How do I list a flight?

Create a flight listing by entering your route, date, available seats, and estimated cost per passenger. You can also include useful details that make the flight clearer and more appealing.

Does it cost anything to list a flight?

No. Listing flights on SkyFuns is free. A service fee applies only when passengers book and confirm seats.

Can I choose which passengers join my flight?

Yes. Pilots have control over accepting or declining passenger requests based on preferences, expectations, and comfort level.

When should I post a flight?

Post as early as possible to increase visibility and booking chances. Flexible flights can also help attract more passengers.

Pilot FAQ

Payments and costs

How do I receive payment?

Passenger contributions are processed securely through SkyFuns and transferred after the flight according to the active payout schedule for your account.

What happens if the flight duration or cost changes?

Costs agreed at booking are fixed and cannot be adjusted after the flight. If the actual duration or operating costs exceed the initial estimate, additional charges cannot be passed on to passengers. As pilot in command, plan the route, fuel, timing, and likely delays carefully.

Pilot FAQ

Passengers and logistics

Will I receive passenger contact details?

Once a booking is confirmed, you can communicate with passengers to coordinate meeting details and logistics. SkyFuns strongly recommends keeping communication inside the platform chat for safety and traceability.

Where do I meet passengers?

Meeting points are normally agreed directly with passengers, usually at the departure airfield or a designated location. Pilots should suggest a clear meeting point because passengers may be unfamiliar with the airport.

Are there restrictions on passenger weight or baggage?

Yes. As pilot in command, you are responsible for weight and balance. Communicate passenger and baggage limitations clearly before confirming the booking.

Pilot FAQ

Changes and cancellations

What if I need to cancel a flight?

If you must cancel, notify passengers as early as possible through SkyFuns. Refunds are handled according to the SkyFuns cancellation policy.

What if a passenger cancels?

Passenger cancellations follow platform policies. Depending on timing, fees or partial refunds may apply to the passenger. No cancellation fee or compensation is sent to the pilot when the flight does not take place.

Can passengers cancel at the last minute?

Last-minute cancellations can happen. Depending on the situation and timing, they may be penalized by platform policy. SkyFuns aims to keep the process fair for both pilots and passengers.

Pilot FAQ

Safety and responsibility

What are my responsibilities as a pilot?

You are fully responsible for the safety and operation of the flight, compliance with local and European aviation regulations, and all go/no-go decisions.

Can I modify or refuse a flight after accepting passengers?

Yes. Safety always comes first. You may delay, modify, or cancel a flight because of weather, technical issues, operational constraints, or any other safety concern.
